strongly disagree with this logic if you carry a gun with a loaded chamber you might spend the last moment of your life not realizing that the trigger got hooked on something by accidenthttps://twitter.com/orthzar/status/1384947544069861376 …

4/ contrast this with carrying a pistol with a round in the chamber. and, yes, yes, carry it in a good holster, practice safe behavior, all that. But what are the chances that SOMETHING goes wrong at least once? much bigger than 1 in 1M, I think. Accidents happen.

5/ I think that the "always carry w a round in the chamber" is motivated much less by calm mathematical analysis and much more by emotional daydreaming "but what if I got attacked by six terrorists simultaneously !?!?"https://twitter.com/TheLumpenprole/status/1385221484059271168 …

7/ USAF ROTC survival training, Plattsburgh AFB, 1990 survival training sgt: every year someone cuts themselves with a knife, and it's usually the one who bragged about being an Eagle Scout cadet I couldn't stand: "I'm an Eagle Scout and that'd never happen to me" >>>

8/ anyone want to guess what Act 3 of this little story is? yes, exactly those 30 seconds watching the blood and the smirk on the sgt's face were the only part of the month long USAF field training that didn't suck

10/ I pointed a gun at one person, once in my life (road rage kind thing - I was stopped at a traffic light and he opened my passenger door and tried to get in), and the pistol had an EMPTY chamber. ...and I'm happy it did.

11/ Even in that scenario, where we're well down the funnel to violence, there was < 1:500 chance that he was gonna attack me while facing down a pistol, and I'd rather have to rack a slide while dealing w that than run the risk of a negligent discharge into a guy's face.

@octal has had 10,000x more training than me, so he's due a ton of deference yet - I disagree (could be convinced w hard data, tho!). I'm not a body guard or blackwater security, and the scenarios I'm likely to see do not require instant response https://twitter.com/octal/status/1385225167421550598 …This Tweet is unavailable.Show this thread -
13/ I've had some folks tell me in DMs "well, there ARE scenarios where that 1 second matters; look at this case or that case" I ENTIRELY AGREE ! There ARE such scenarios. I am merely doing math on the LIKELIHOOD of such scenarios.
