a 1,400 page document with 7 levels of heading outline, a 40 page table of contents, thousands of cross references, 500 embedded images, and a 40 page index ...is pushing the capabilities of LibreOffice just a bit

3/ ....I run more scripts that unzip the .odt (it's really just a zip file w contents inside of a certain specification), and parse the XML and then swizzle the style in styles.xml and insert cross references in content.xml there are steps that must be done in open office and
