"epistemic imperialism" -> insistence that everyone must share your basic worldview and sensemaking apparatus, even when their deviations from it do not affect you "institutional-empiricist" -> truth is derived from experiments with the right buzzwords attached

and, lol, the Enlightenment depends on midwits sneering at folk superstitions on behalf of the perverted remnants of a worldview they don't understand? sorry, this is silly

Look man I don't know what you're attacking but Chana is not a "midwit" doing something on behalf of "a worldview she doesn't understand" (nor am I). Yes, the values of the modern age do depend on commitment to rationality. Don't need to attack, but can't condone irrationality.

on a philosophical basis, this is utterly confused the values of the modern age (which are those?) don't depend in any intelligible way on what someone does with dowsing rods materialism does not have any input into what you choose to value

Can't convey this in twitter but I emphatically disagree that epistemology can be separated from ethics. And even if *what* you value is unrelated, surely epistemology matters to whether you can achieve them.

people who are ready to roll with completely adopting one epistemic frame and denying the existence of anything outside it carry risk factors for rolling with that frame when it does something like throw a revolution and kill everyone who disagrees

The bloody revolutions of history do not stem from too intransigent a commitment to reason.

Oh tons of blood has been shed in the *name* of reason but very little of the actual content or method of the French revolution was even close to rational. And no this is not just post hoc, if you actually look at their approach you can't call it reason.

Shea Levy @shlevyReplying to @ded_ruckus @MorlockP and 3 othersHave you studied the French revolution in detail? Do its horrors actually, in your independent assessment, stem from *reason*? Nothing I do will prevent other people from using words incorrectly. But that doesn't mean there's no fact of the matter of what reason is or isn't.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -
It's not "no true scotsman" to believe that saying you're Scottish doesn't make you Scottish!
