as an aside >"If the Black Death caused the Renaissance, will COVID also create a golden age?" i hope this is a strawman and nobody's actually comparing the impact of a pandemic that's killed 2M people worldwide with one that wiped out a third of the population

The body of the essay is excellent. However, this part from the conclusion is not: "That’s why I say we should aim to do better than the Renaissance. Because we can. We have so much they didn’t. We know so much." That last sentence contracts the body of her essay.
