Secondary reason: Deeper registers are used for intimidation. Speaking in falcetto and/or soft higher tones conveys trustworthiness and comfort. This also is biological, not cultural--all social animals capable of vocalization in multiple registers do something similar.

big things make lower pitched noises, smaller things higher pitched noises. When you speak in a high pitch “you are making yourself smaller” like if you sat on the ground to talk to a toddler
