also, I've watched the docu before, but rewatching it just now, and seeing the splash screen w your name and your title "Oil Painter" - that must feel good to be labelled with the official imprimatur of <specialist> one thing I dreamed of as a kid, re being an author was the >>>

Officialness of it - if you wrote a book and a Real Publisher prints it, and a Real Photographer takes your dustjacket photo, and a Real Bookstore sells it, etc. then you were Real in retrospect, that need for external validation is sub optimal ... but that doesn't mean it's >>>

I do think that makes a lot of sense. I don't know if the Gatekeeping Institutions of the past were actually what they feel like when I think about them, but they do create that feeling, and it would be nice to get that stamp. I def get that. /

"Kendric Tonn, Oil Painter" is my own self-granted styling, of course, though it does feel different seeing it crop up on a title card. Particularly in the classical painting world, describing yourself as an "artist" rather than a "painter" is a faux pas. /

I did some more elaborate brandings a while back ("classical painter and draftsman" or something like that). I was reading an article on Japanese business card culture, and the author mentioned that one's card loses content as one climbs the social ladder/
