I’ve observed that it’s a really uphill battle explaining to people that the law doesn’t mean much of it doesn’t reflect commonly held public virtue If I have to hear “freedom of speech doesn’t mean freedom from consequences” one more time I’m gonna scream

“You have the right to free speech but as it might be offensive we reserve the right to close your bank accounts” doesn’t really confer much of anything worth having, what happened to “I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it”
