3/ and finally: it's foolish to think about LITERAL tomorrow. Think about FIGURATIVE tomorrow. Invest so that you can retire in 20 or 30 years. Polish your skills so that you can compose a sonnet or butcher a hog or restore a classic car in 5 years.

4/ You have FAR more control over your life 20 years out than you have over your life 24 hours out. Tomorrow is largely dictated by inertia, momentum, and current location. 20 years out is dominated by very small changes you make today (and keep making).

if only people were as explicit as "expect to see 30% gains...", then you could call people out; most the time it's post-hoc "I knew it would do X, it was obvious!" re caring: you can't influence it but you can make money on it, or you can make money (or status) talking about it
