1/ Interesting thread. One potential answer: sometimes the movie edit and the DVD edit are different. I saw Aliens in the theater and there was a scene w robotic machine guns. Got the DVD 10 years later, no such scene. I must have imagined it! >>>https://twitter.com/katrosenfield/status/1367637197504020485 …

And some markets get alternate cuts even at launch. Most theaters didn't have the autoguns scene.

Theres a similar thing with Lost World Jurassic Park. The UK cut was slightly different than the US cut. The the BBC broadcast version was different than that, with some deleted scenes. And there's a US broadcast version that's like a hybrid of the US theatrical and BBC broadcast

Didn't see it in theaters, but had exactly the same experience with the drone guns, I suppose from different home video releases or something.

It was more common in VHS days, as they would typically be adjusted to fit the 4:3 it was easy for someone upstairs to cut out a small scene that was too violent or sexy or slow or whatever. Early DVDs would've been based on THOSE cuts, with cut scences as a BONUS if you're lucky

I distinctly remember that when I saw Forrest Gump in the theater it started with a little bit of bio about his dad being crushed by bananas or something that I’ve never seen again.

Think it was more common in 80s and earlier before everything was a nation-wide opening every time because of megaplexes. T2 seems a little late for that, but not extremely so.

For example, the multiple endings for Clue or the pull-and-rename for Chopping Mall.

Weirder are the extended TV cuts - like the 4 hr [Lynch] edition...
