/ So I was gonna write code one way or another. I decided to * use LibreOffice * write a script that would instrument the cross references from macros already in the .txt file * have same script insert index reference points so OpenOffice could build the index automagically

/ The goal is basically like old C makefiles: * I can make whatever changes I want in the "source code" (book.txt) * I can then type "rake index" * finished book in multiple formats (.mobi, PDF, etc.) pops out other end Important for 2nd edition

/ I don't know that it was LACKING, but I had embedded macros I'd written e.g. (CCC "Intro: Subsection: SubSubSection") that I wanted replaced with (see p. 173) And this was relatively easy for me to do.https://twitter.com/JayGSlater/status/1367129930505535491 …

/ and, sure, maybe LaTeX can already do this, but ... it would've taken me 4 hrs to figure it out, and it took me 4 hrs to write my own script to do it

/ also, the core issue here is that I AM AWARE of LaTeX and HAVE USED IT and understand exactly what it's capable of ... ... ... and I don't like it.

/ I don't know if it was not suitable for me or not. What I know is that I would have to either (a) learn some feature of a software package that I hate, or (b) write some feature for a software toolchain that I like I far far far prefer 'b' https://twitter.com/poutinecurd/status/1367130943606173701 …

/ I ABSOLUTELY concede that LaTeX is without compare for things in the last 3-5% of complexity. but... I am doing very very simple stuff.https://twitter.com/JayGSlater/status/1367132143579762688 …
