I have an eighteenth century book of mythology somewhere at my folk's place. I use some furniture that's latter-half nineteenth. Object I'm fondest of, though, is the fiddle I play badly, from 1907. I think it's good to be in contact with things that predate everyone you know.https://twitter.com/kelly_ques/status/1365075651812712448 …

I should dig that book out, only thing I remember is the frontispiece, which emphasises that the stuff inside was the work of less enlightened eras, and should not be taken to contradict the truths of Christianity. Plus ça change.

I should get my Milton, too. I declined to buy the required text, and used a pre-great-war edition that had been wrapped in brown paper and heavily annotated by an English boy in, iirc, 1922. I found the annotations quite helpful.

Ah, I was such a brat, with my velvet blazer and loose-knotted ascot and Housman in my breast pocket and general failure to quite grasp that no one in The Secret History is an object to be emulated. I miss it.

Well, I'm conflating a few things because That Phase peaked in art school, post undergraduate, but uhhhh, I definitely hit some kind of Disheveled Prep School Tuberculitic Bohemian mark

I miss the blazer so much, absolutely wore it to death. Was a significant part of my winter gear. I don't think it ever occurred to me that, failing anything else, my parents would have bought me an actual winter coat

if I were handsome and/or knew how to wear clothes, I think I'd enjoy a Tolkien-esque blazer Maybe get

Do ittt, get a solidly made tweet jacket (f). Climate appropriate, and it'll outlast us all.
