2/ aha! there are actually TWO problems: 1) hydrant froze up 2) I put such torque on the handle that I stretched the stainless steel cam shackles looks like a run to Tractor Supply for a rebuild kit is in my future

3/ had an amusing conversation impedance mismatch w wife just now: me: I stretched the stainless steel cam shackles [ ...and now have to either machine new parts on the Bridgeport, or go buy replacements :( ] she hears: "you're so strong that you can STRETCH METAL

5/ yard hydrant replacement pieces arrived in mail yesterday > 40 degrees overnight go out to the barn this morning to replace the offset cam shackles ...and I hear water pouring
go inside: ice block had melted, 70psi water pressure on plunger head 4' below ground >>>Show this thread -
6/ ...had pushed the plunger up 2", pushing the whole assembly up, turning the yard hydrant on. So... had to do a tricky thing w pushing down on the hydrant rod w a pair of pliers in one hand while reassembling hydrant head w other two hands. Got it done. Yard hydrant working
