As I've been revising the homesteading book, I've been double checking prices. I've seen 20+% price increases on almost every product I recommend, over just 24 months. This was $650 in 2019; it's $999 today. https://www.webstaurantstore.com/ary-vacmaster-vp215-chamber-vacuum-packaging-machine-with-10-1-4-seal-bar/120VMASVP215.html … "Stealth inflation" is real.

5/ http://www.chapwoodindex.org/ Look at the right hand column; that's the average over the last 5 years. If we check out Boston at 10.4%, and compute 1.104 ^ 5, we see prices are up 60% since 2016. This strikes me as a BIT high ... but ... not an order of magnitude too high.pic.twitter.com/TJZNGpMY89

6/ Here's http://Zillow.com price history of a house in the Boston suburbs that I used to own, and sold in 2014 (to move to the farm). $550k -> estimated $920k which is ... a 59.8% increase

7/ absolutely, but... does inflation "not count" if we can point to a particular cause? https://twitter.com/jkrwld/status/1359173227595980800 …

8/ I always took the "stealth" in the phrase to reference "not showing up in the CPI, bc of how they choose their basket of goods", not "of unknown cause". https://twitter.com/jkrwld/status/1359175002935812097 …

Replying to @MorlockP
Isn't this partially because loans are so cheap, though, so actual $ spent per month hasn't gone up?

maybe!
tho you'd expect price appreciate WHEN interest rates drop, but not when they hold still

Yeah, that's fair, they haven't dropped since 2015 much (gone up in some periods)

Replying to @orthonormalist
but either way, look at the head of the thread, re tools, etc. maybe your argument is that low interest rates lead to RE inflation, leads to HELOCs, leads to increase in money supply ?
