As I've been revising the homesteading book, I've been double checking prices. I've seen 20+% price increases on almost every product I recommend, over just 24 months. This was $650 in 2019; it's $999 today. https://www.webstaurantstore.com/ary-vacmaster-vp215-chamber-vacuum-packaging-machine-with-10-1-4-seal-bar/120VMASVP215.html … "Stealth inflation" is real.

/ http://www.chapwoodindex.org/ Look at the right hand column; that's the average over the last 5 years. If we check out Boston at 10.4%, and compute 1.104 ^ 5, we see prices are up 60% since 2016. This strikes me as a BIT high ... but ... not an order of magnitude too high.pic.twitter.com/TJZNGpMY89

/ Here's http://Zillow.com price history of a house in the Boston suburbs that I used to own, and sold in 2014 (to move to the farm). $550k -> estimated $920k which is ... a 59.8% increase

/ absolutely, but... does inflation "not count" if we can point to a particular cause? https://twitter.com/jkrwld/status/1359173227595980800 …

/ I always took the "stealth" in the phrase to reference "not showing up in the CPI, bc of how they choose their basket of goods", not "of unknown cause". https://twitter.com/jkrwld/status/1359175002935812097 …
