very good thread A realization that I had distressingly late in life (mid 40s) is that most people - EVEN MOST SMART PEOPLE - are very very sloppy and let feelings, conclusions, and moral authority leak very promiscuously from one concept or argument to another nearby one.https://twitter.com/unconed/status/1337368270907842560 …

My favorite was when people were questioning why liquor stores remained open when schools were shut down. There are good logical arguments, time spent together et cetera, but one justification was alcoholics dying from sudden withdrawals. https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/companies/why-are-liquor-stores-considered-essential/ar-BB12eVa4 …

Of course the real reason for anyone really thinking about it logically knows to ask cui bono. In this case, States make a lot of tax money off alcohol if they're not an absolute monopoly as my state is.

Another thing that super ramped up here, was "safe supply". Addicts & homeless were compassionately bundled into under used motels & government drug pushers supplied alcohol, needles & drugs to "prevent the most vulnerable from falling through the cracks of society"
