Note that 'code expressed to extract desired responses from social environment' is one of the primary aspects of 'belief'. But it's not the *only* one, for most people.

one thing that shocked me is learning that most religious people put pretty little emphasis on theology / beliefs about the true nature of the universe. For most people, "religion" is far more about kin group, rituals, self image, etc. The ever present autist / normie divide
