Just now got an email advertising sheet titanium. That itself isn't something I have any use for, but it does remind me that I wanted to do some paintings on sheet copper.

Yep, in addition to the fact copper is just physically more durable than a mobile, hygroscopic textile! Oil paints actually get more transparent with age, too, and I'd suspect warm- tone paintings work better than cooler paintings on copper for just this reason.
