spare a minute today to pray for those poor goofballs who took their Capitol protest a bit too far most of them did no harm (minimal damage, meetings were delayed a bit), but the System is going to use them as examples slightly foolish idealists are looking at DECADES of prison

9/ Jesus does not forgive the sinless (if there are any) - he doesn't HAVE to. He hung out with people who were foolish and bad - they were the ones who needed Him. Similarly, I suggest, we should think about, care about, and pray for the foolish, the LARPers, the prisoners.

10/ That crushing weight of fear and regret, and that sense that there are no exits, is indescribable. Spare a thought, and a prayer, for the LARPers.

Yep! Half of the point of "the rule of law" is predictability--individual citizens can know what's permitted and what isn't, what will be penalized and by how much, etc, and can order their lives and make decisions on that basis.

When some violent rioters in DC (at the 2017 inauguration protests, say) are arrested but then released and have their charges dropped the message/signal is that's rhe expected outcome, and naive citizens internalize that belief. Of course *their* charges won't be dropped...
