You may say this offhand but YES. 19th Century Russian (ending with the Revolution, one more reason to hate communism) is the greatest. Chekhov short stories and Lermontov are good places to start.

One of the biggest Bros K fans I know is a committed marxist (yes, lower-case). It's a fine novel. My personal recommendation as a nihilistic cavalryman is Lermontov's A Hero of Our Time.
