Assuming the checkInventory call is not checkInventoryAndReserveXUnits, who would reasonably assume that inventory would remain 100% static? Even .5 seconds could see another order take the stock.

Every nanosecond could make a difference if you're unlucky enough, which presumably Big Co. would be occasionally if they have a large enough volume. I shouldn't be shocked but I guess I am lol
