3/ I read something about Freud once: "Freud was right ... about Freud. He was wrong in thinking that his model was generally applicable." I wonder how much philosophers inquire into Truth, and how much they just inquire into "THEIR truth".

i've never gotten to reading Girard because i've looked up some summaries and explanations of his thought and it never made it look like he makes sense, so i figured it probably isn't worth it

<3 u bud but this is a pretty bad take / self-own If you delegate your worldview-building to people who write summaries...well, you do you, but ime you’re consuming 2nd rate thinkers * 2nd rate writing. Maybe the original thinker was a bad writer, most are, but at least its pure

I don’t think you’re missing anything. I started reading him too and felt like I ran into the same gap. His argument is stylish and fun but it doesn’t feel particularly plausible if you spell it out step by step. He’s onto something but it’s overstated.
