yes, if it's DRM-free then you can save the file, convert it to other formats for different ereaders, etc (you can also do this if it has DRM, but you have to install the crack and mess around with device keys)

I bought Powers of Earth and opened it on Kindle for Android. But no .prc or .mobi file in the filesystem, so can't copy to my offline reading device. Looks like Amazon continues to make it very hard to use DRM-free items, unlike Kobo. No worries though, it was for science.
