Hmm some of it is different standard of care presumably in England, some of it is slightly dramatized. For example a passy muir valve is a common tool for speaking with a tracheostomy in place. Finally that is with staffing and equipment, without drug shortages, could be worse.

idk, intensive care is ugly no matter what the affliction a car crash could put you in that situation easily, but people still drive obv. numbers are worse with covid how much worse? mostly unknowable -- stats have limited application to individual cases

I personally have a pretty high caution level re: covid but I can't really fault people who estimate differently -- I am also lucky in that I take little personal or financial cost from doing so

Some argument could be made here for the decision of "I'm not going to the hospital, I'll die at home" thinking. Not wanting to die alone after a long life well lived is a pretty compelling argument.

My 84 and 87 yr old mom and aunt have already socialized their way through covid, hopefully my family's medical good luck will hold.
