3/ strong agree. One thing I do love about Heinlein is that he, like Neal Stephenson, can experiment with ideas, push them whole-heartedly, and then pivot to some other idea later.https://twitter.com/ShirePropaganda/status/1344315752506159106 …

4/ Since we're talking about Heinlein, I recommend The Pleasant Profession of Robert A. Heinlein by Farah Mendlesohn. She's fairly left of center, in an SJW-ish way, and tries to contort Heinlein's positions to match w her own, but that defect aside, it's a great resource

Oh yes it is very blatant in that it's trying to convince you starship troopers government would be best, but also the mobile infantry are very cool and even if you disagree with heinlein it is interesting to consider such a world
-
Neither form of government nor mobile infantry is the main thrust of the book. It's about the journey from civilian to soldier, and its sci-fi setting just illustrates a timeless nature of that transition.

I read books like "Friday" when I was a young teenager. In hindsight, I wish I hadn't. I don't think they set me on a good path with regards to sexual relationships
-
Heinlein was libertine as well as libertarian, and in his later works was happy to make that really clear.

Heinlein clearly ripped off Old Man War & sequels (sequela?) in SST.
