also, like, presumably the helicopters are their main logistical backbone around the country so how else would they deliver fuel to arbitrary destinations across land infested with militants think they're gonna install a pipeline?

Look up the K-Max drone helicopter. Amazing record - still haven't figured out why it wasn't widely adopted.
