Not really. Every organization is built on trust networks, and those tend to start with families. What is a church congregation but a group of neighboring families organized for a purpose?

And how many people meet good bosses or employees in their town through church? People they can trust not to mistreat them? And that's just one sort. Maybe all the most rotten institutions are that way because they comprise too many people with no ties of loyalty to anyone.
