Writing the chapter on solar energy for homesteads, doing maths ... and, holy !@#, guys, I'm getting a solar system installed next year. NH has extremely expensive electricity, and we use a lot of it ($386/mo). NPV of 25 yrs (lifetime of a system) is $80k. Panels are < $20k

At a previous job I did some calculations for a proposed rural solar irrigation project. I don't have any of it anymore but I recall thinking "This looks better than I expected, and is getting better all the time."

I dove into renewables math ~15 years ago and wound up at "shit, this will cost a fortune and no one will adopt it without huge state action." I saw the price graphs back then, but still totally failed to expect how fast we'd hit "rooftop solar is a good investment."
