1/ehhhh there's SOME truth here, but it's only part of the story government mandated emission controls and fuel efficiency standards have a ton to do with it - diesel tractor engines now have mandated DPF filters, which are controlled by microprocessors to run a burn off cyclehttps://twitter.com/jeffnolan/status/1337267106165886976 …

8/ this creates more utility for both buyers and sellers ; setting one price creates "deadweight loss" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deadweight_loss … also, I reject your framing "just be honest". It is perfectly honest to sell a tractor and also parts / manuals / code testers.

9/ yes, the marketing / concept is wonderful ...but the reality is that it's just USG mandating that vendors can't sell their manuals (thus reducing incentives to create good manuals) and other similar idiocyhttps://twitter.com/jcenters/status/1337800395343753219 …

Some of these new tractors will not run with repaired parts. The mechanic has to get into the computer and “bless” the part, using software that only licensed repair shops are allowed to run, digital signatures from manufacturer, etc.

>where a less wealthy person can buy the tractor but repair his own parts / ad hoc holds for plain mechanical parts
, breaks terribly for parts w/ chips
if locked by the mfg, un-locking can easily run afoul of DMCA ("breaking security measures"), and is considered a *crime*.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
