Definitely true. Being playful -- being the guy who makes the good jokes at the meeting -- is part of being pleasant to be around. And being pleasant to be around is a huge and hugely underrated part of success in organizations.

Helps avoid you becoming the guy that everyone sloughs extra work onto because he can't say no, too. You've got no obligation to imply that you're "happy" to be at work, as long as you're competent.
