i think it's a personal responsibility issue. someone dying in a car crash because user error is vastly easier to understand than someone tragically dying by computer algorithm. not necessarily rational, but certainly emotional

Dying/killing someone through negligence or human error is WORSE. Computers don’t get PTSD for causing accidents.

idk, I think there's a reasonable case for something like this based on information uncertainty you basically know what the parameters of human screwups are, but who knows what bizarre new failure modes are hiding in an AI

thus an AI that looks exactly as safe as a human driver should rationally be treated as somewhat more dangerous to account for that risk is 4-5x the right discounting factor? dunno, probably not
