One of my biggest steps into adulthood was when I realized that a million dollars isn't really a lot of money, it's a good starting point.

Rule of thumb is that in retirement you can spent 4% of your principal every year. $1M is $40k/yr $2M is $80k/yr $3M is $120k/yr TLDR: any net worth of less than $3M isn't even middle class. I'm striving hard to be middle class in retirement (after a very late start)

Aside from "win $30M in the lottery, have it ruin your life", there are tons of people who inherit $200k and think they never need to work again...and it's gone in a year.
