Hmm. I think there's a nuanced point there. Sure, the US has a history of keeping political prisoners for various reasons. But we're at some crazy place where a mountain of exonerating video evidence that anyone can review is available, which is fairly new in American history.

But the law simply isn't as cut-and-dry as people like to pretend. Is there a very strong defense possible for him? Is the prosecution political? Certainly! But can they also make a strong case against him? Also yes! So much is judgement about intent and reasonability.
