38/ Bone and blood are both great additives. Iron, calcium, carbon, nitrogen. Whether they're PARTICULARLY good (better than other things like woodchips or leaves) depends on if they're supplying anything your soil is short on. https://twitter.com/ric_pickle/status/1329494379631955969 …

I've spent years growing tomatoes without pruning because "you don't have to." This year I pruned and staked properly and got over 20x the yield of previous years. Harvests like this were once a year previously, rather than once every day or two for two months. pic.twitter.com/n67bf3cekD

41/ It depends on what "small" means. For just a bushel or two, I think scythe is going to be the win. The tractor implements to process wheat are multiple, and not cheap. Not sure of the full list, but minimum mower, collector, some way to winnow...https://twitter.com/688as/status/1329511654002921474 …

I'm looking at growing "small" amounts of grains for homebrewing/distilling. Oats, barley, rye. At what point does it become more economical to buy a tractor and implements to harvest versus doing it by hand with a scythe?

44/ Arid isn't a problem - you can irrigate. Windy might be a problem, or might not be. The big problem I see is that, combined with arid, it could dry things out. I'd experiment w wind brakes. I've successfully grown *cherry* tomatoes in areas that get no direct sun (i.e. North side of the house; under a tree). Their flavor is store-bought quality and the yields much lower, but it is possible for those desperate for tomatoes or with unused space.
