15/ far outside my experience, sadly but from what little I know, I'd suggest drip irrigation, soil moisture meters, and shade cloth https://www.farmtek.com/farm/supplies/cat1a;ft_shade_cloth_material.html …https://twitter.com/random_scrub/status/1329443215313936394 …

19/ There are two distinct questions here: one refers to the compaction of the existing soil, and the other refers to the composition. One needs to read up on the soil triangle, which describes the inorganic fraction of the soil, plus also on organic >https://twitter.com/jcenters/status/1329448183886393346 …

20/ The inorganic component of the soil is a mix of sand (large particles), silt (small particles), and clay (very very small particles). The ideal mix is loam, and it should be amended to achieve that. >>pic.twitter.com/CNfxAweDuu

Side note on this. If you have soil questions about growing plants that are beyond the reach of your local garden center, consult with a soil *scientist*. If you need to know what your soil can do to support structures (including retaining walls), consult with a soil *engineer*.

It's two different fields. We soil engineers haven't used the USDA triangle for 50 years or so. I have bad memories of a summer spent reclassifying loams from old boring logs into the USCS.
