* yes, a novice can do it * don't aim at 100% self sufficiency; there's declining marginal utility / increasing marginal cost; aim for 50% * not $500k ... but, you know, you ARE going to see $100k in your rear-view mirror * time-frame: I went from 0 to 50% calories in ~4 years https://twitter.com/jcbonthedl/status/1328052002258100224 …

3/ NH climate is ~ 95 F in the summer, ~10-20F in the winter. Growing season is neither overly long or short. Most animals are slaughtered in fall. I bet things would be a bit easier in, say, Georgia, but not insanely easier.https://twitter.com/pjsempe/status/1328094946084200449 …

4/ oof, the rocks here I've pulled something north of 10 tractor buckets (but less than 20 tractor buckets) of rocks out of my "downhill patch". Call it > 120 cubic feet of rocks https://twitter.com/NoOpinion10/status/1328097331762368514 …

Upper New England is just rocks with a little soil overlayed. I tried to dig to the bottom of a rock wall one time when I was a kid. They go all the way down. I think about Frost's 'mending wall' everytime I hear about your neighbor problem.
