3/ Obviously saying such a thing to some internet stranger does not constitute useful advice (not that "lol, give up" could ever be useful), so why do they do it? Extinguishing / sharing anxiety, I assume. Some kid in the city or suburbs is upset with his own precarious life >

4/ ...dislikes the implicit hierarchy where some people are more prepared and some are less, and so he tries to erase that distinction to lessen his own status anxiety / survival anxiety by trying to round them all in to the same bin.

5/ This is basically identical to Sailor's Law of Female Journalism: low status (i.e. ugly) women frame things so that they're not low status. TJIC's law of male non-preppers: the unprepared frame things so that they're no worse off than people with skills and tools.

I think about what I call every day disasters when I prep. I was able to easily feed my family when I wasn't working and hubs was between jobs for a month because we were prepped with food that we eat normally. Having solar and a generator has gotten us through many power outages

Griefers? Those are optimists. What will you do when the moon gets hit by an interstellar projectile and breaks into a number of still-orbiting masses that nevertheless lose orbital velocity and come crashing down to earth over the course of millennia? CHECKMATE, PREPPER!
