1/ Back in college I found a book at a used bookstore "Nuclear War Survival Skills", which, in addition to having tons of prepper information, also had an introduction which mentioned, among other things, that a sane political stance re nuclear war was neither left nor right

7/ The good news, though, is that we've got very intelligent, sane, balanced people with excellent cognitive skills at the highest levels of power in both the US and PRC, so it's all gonna be ok.

Harder to detect means calibration towards more false positives, too, which is the most realistic reason someone might launch a real first strike.
