8/ Eye / hand reaction speed correlates something like 0.5 with IQ, IIRC. Mechanical puzzles. Word problems. Back before universal literacy everyone knew who was clever and who was slow.https://twitter.com/Ideoprax/status/1325256079253626880?s=19 …

9/ I agree with your cabinetmaker analogy. Most people couldn't be cabinetmakers, FWIW. It's a skilled craft.https://twitter.com/MutualArising/status/1325257114365923329?s=19 …

Eric w/ one wild life @MutualArisingReplying to @MorlockPNah. I’m a coder that has consistently scored 135-140 in IQ tests over the course of my life. Much of what I do is basic tradework, craft, care. No different than a decent cabinet maker. There’s a place for new algorithms but much code is just a trade that most ppl can learn.5 replies 0 retweets 25 likesShow this thread -
Replying to @MorlockP
Oh I agree with that. My woodworking projects are shit. And not everyone likes logic puzzles. Just saying good code is mostly a matter of attention, beauty, and pride in craft not rarified intelligence. And all humans have things they care about doing well.
