It took me a moment to notice who was speaking and the other items realize inventing an atomic bomb was supposed to be a bad thing. Also, smoke stacks are used to reduce emissions vs just emitting at source so again weird to make it a bad thing.

In defense of the male inventors, we have the advantage of “hindsight is 20/20” that they did not have at that time. It’s a nuanced point but fundamental in understanding why it was invented in the first place.

The inventors did not have internet. They only had mainstream media feeding their fear of a foreign power developing powerful weaponry. It was under these conditions that scientists were propositioned by our government to act.
