It’s sad and bizarre that conservatives adopted one of the most progressive movements in history (temperance and prohibition). It would be funny had it not led to a century of destruction of human lives and civil society.

I totally understand unrelenting pain. Thankfully I figured out the cause after 18 months of test, therapy, injections, etc and never needed to go the pain management route. But I was close. I don’t know how I think about this though. It’s ruined so many families and lives.

I agree at a high level with all this. but on a personal level I still hate opioids several of the brightest, best people I've ever known destroyed their lives with heroin

we really need better tools to help people manage use without engaging in paternalistic control, or just leaving people to struggle
