there's a limited amount of conversation space that most people operate in. you can actually pretty much survey, study and map out that entire conversation space, and "complete" it. it's actually pretty similar to say, learning all they scales and chords and keys in western music

many people will quibble over "oh, it's never REALLY complete, music/conversation/art/etc is INFINITE" yeah yeah i'm talking about practical completeness it's *possible* to learn Basically Every Song. It's not ACTUALLY every song, but it's enough that it looks like magic

there are only 12 notes in an octave, and you hardly ever use all of them. everything is made up of other things. things are knowable. you can spend a lifetime exploring the nuances, yes, but there are thresholds you can cross remarkably early if you just put in the work

same with cooking, right?? salt, acid, fat, heat. protein, fat, carbs. olive oil. butter. red meat, white meat. bread pasta rice. like... yeah, you can go look up weird and obscure things, but everything is just variations of those basics things

Ruhlman's homemade bacon recipe is, indeed, excellent. Even if you have to improvise the smoking because apartment living. So glad I no longer need to do that.
