Houses with trees in the yard often sell for more. Parks with trees are more valuable. High end HOA's often require each house to have a tree in front. But all this is dancing around the fact that value means "benefit to humans" and it's not capitalism that defined it.

I think the sentiment is "capitalism overlooks externalities, e.g. it values trees as timber but does not account for the 'ecosystem services' they provide". Which could be followed up by "Therefore, by Coase's theorem, we need to define property rights in these externalities."
