In terms of lifestyle, the top 10% of Americans would probably be better off earning in the US and retiring in a nice part of Europe.

Principle of revealed preference tho (which, I realize, is making the argument perfectly circular, and you can tell me to GTFO at this point). But I raise this because the LACK of emigration suggests that claims aren't real but are rhetorical tools for domestic political purpose
