10/ Apparently subject experience is considered a word game. Very well. How, then, can we claim that lives (secularly lived) can be "better"? Measured how? Subjective experience is right out, but this argument.https://twitter.com/shlevy/status/1315608889128366095 …

11/ I think it was a good and honest attempt to engage - thank you! ...but I think the entire thread, like atheism (nor or old) is deeply flawed and incoherent.https://twitter.com/shlevy/status/1315608895050731521 …

12/ As always, I suggest that agnosticism is the only RATIONAL worldview. Atheism, like theism, is a positive claim to know the unknowable. At least theism acknowledges that the leap from the measurable to the unprovable is one of faith. Atheism hides and denies that step.

" And do so only using concepts that can be measured in a lab" atheism is not inherently scientistic materialism
Re: citation needed, I wasn't making an argument here, just stating a claim. The argument is an inductive one, which requires much observation over a long time.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

I wouldn't advocate it for paperclippy reasons, but you probably could create a metric based on Lab-Complete numbers like kCalories range of movement and alpha-amylase production that... well, again, not gonna call it _good_, but better than a low bar is doable.
-
And the bar is low. Just as Christianity can point to Molochian baby cannibalism (lab-complete!), it's not hard for the New Atheist to point toward the latter half of Deuteronomy 22, or the Jewish skeptic to go Full Acher (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shiluach_haken#Theodicy …).

I can see this as being trivially true in the sense that, also, at any given point there was a real path open that was *less* secular and could be expected to lead to a better life. But of course then it's true but worthless for the purpose it's being used for in the argument.
