Bass is artificially boosted with directional mics when you are close to them. One person’s warmth is another’s mud. You can also do what the switch does on the console or in the computer. 1\2

The regional radio station used to have uncontrolled bass on their microphones. I thought it sounded like Garrus from Mass Effect (a normal voice combined with a version down an octave). 2/2
