2/ Ringo is tremendously fun to read. That's orthogonal to "is he a disgusting pervert? [ yes, he is ] " https://twitter.com/Azrael556_Fet/status/1311352644280221697 …

The sequel is better, the third is basically a super-weird 300-page tangent about South American "face"culture when it meets the hard cold reality of "If you open that door there is no fudging air and you will die". /Actually, it's a very good book for Trump-COVID.

I've not read a John Ringo novel in about 12 years ... Has he gotten ... a lot worse? Very good essay. And horrifying. FWIW,
@hradzka is right on the money when it comes to fiction having implicit politics - his analysis of The Mist is entirely accurate. -
Last Centurion is very political Anabasis rewrite about President Clinton going insane during a Chinese plague. But I'm a sucker for Anabasis rewrites OGJRN series kept going. Redneck Death Star series where every city is destroyed by rocks Naked Zombie series.

My faulty, hasn't read for pleasure in way too long brain went "I don't remember any weird sex scenes in the Ring of Fire novels. Maybe it went off the rails later?" Then realized I was confusing Ringo & Eric Flint (who, to my knowledge, hasn't written any pervy stuff.

I also confuse the two
