statistics like this are misleading this doesn't mean that the entire population of all cows - they are only counting HOLSTEINS. Which are 28% of dairy cows. Which are 22% of all cows. 2/ So this is like going to an NFL game, picking the 6% of people who have Swedish ancestry, and then doing research and finding that 99% of those, if you go FIFTY GENERATIONS BACK, have person X or person Y SOMEWHERE in their heritage.

3/ It would be amazing if this WASN'T the case. Even if we didn't intentionally create breeds (which we do, because we want to REDUCE genetic variation for very well thought out reasons), it would be almost impossible for this to not be true.
