I work on software that does modeling and simulation of weapons systems. Bouncing an "RF packet" off the ionosphere from one radar to a receiver requires a few dozen frame translations, and that's all inside an architecture I completely control

One satellite I worked on had separate coordinate systems for the body and sensor. Operators oriented the bird by laying one sensor axis on the target and one body axis on the horizon. I wound up having to derive full orientation from scratch.
