In 2006, I was homeless after my mother killed herself. In 2018, I was working at a FAANG in Silicon Valley. I'm now working remote in a very remote part of WA and saving up to buy a house next year.

My management is spooked by the hours I work and have told me to take Friday off. All while taking lunch, dinner, and coffee breaks.

Nice thread. Agreed. I think one of the issues is that some people just don't have goals or aspirations. Or, when they see the hard path it'll take to get there, give up. This is what participation trophies get you.
