3/ I have a thread on people who work minimum wage jobs and who spend their money poorly. A commenter changes the topic entirely to children who aren't working and takes me to task for having a wrong opinion on a topic I never spoke on. Many such caseshttps://twitter.com/pieratt/status/1310591889679298561 …

At my campus job, we'd get together and do it occasionally (like once a month) on a slow weeknight and socialize a little extra. But yeah, never understood people who would make $30 from working and spend $15 on lunch.

I've got a way better story. A long time ago, my wife saw a couple begging at a street corner. Because the girl was young and pregnant, she invited them to our house. Though they could have had free food from us, they chose instead to order pizza delivered to our house.

its funny how this sentiment completely ignores poor children, who of course we wouldn't blame But then if you can admit children are people put in circumstances they can't escape and didn't cause, then you'd have to start extending that logic to other people too ah shit

I still pack leftovers, two decades after becoming financially stable. Juniors in the office occasionally try to make fun of this. This is a good thing. It means I know who not to trust with company money.

Here's the problem: to pack lunch [to save money] you need to [1st painful step] think ahead and ponder your situation [2nd painful step] accept that you need to save money [3rd painful step] and act accordingly. No painful steps are needed for buying take-out food.

(I put "[to save money]" above because unless it's socially impossible (lunch with client), I pack my lunch (or don't eat it) for quality control reasons. Same reason I cook almost all my meals from basic ingredients.)
